But facebook (large one) works with PHP....

Because.

That is the only answer you can get.
It could be any reason:
1) They think PHP is not suitable
2) They think PHP is Quick Basic for the net
3) They have a large investment in existing code
4) They think it stands for Pignuts Have Piles
5) ...

Your question is like saying: "Why does France use French, when most of their tourists speak English?"

so the meaning is that if you want to go for large IT company, den PHP is not a option. is that so?? is there any chance for PHP programmer to go high as Java and .Net programmer ??

No. Just that if you have done your research correctly, the companies you list do not use PHP, for whatever reasons they have chosen. It means nothing about the next big company you look at - they will make decisions for other reasons.

Some companies do use PHP - but generally, C++, C, C#, and VB are a lot more popular.

why i m asking this question because currently i m as a trainee(1 yr bond - selected in placement) in one IT Solutions company and i m learning ZEND and MAGENTO framework. But i did lot of project in .NET also for Australian client during college time. so should i continue to PHP or leave that company ??

I couldn't say - I am not in Australia so I don't know what local employment conditions are like.
I will say I had never heard of ZEND or MAGENTO before, so how commonly used they are in Australia would have to be a deciding factor.

thanks a lot...for ur valuable suggestion... :-)
Well, it's probably because of things like being strongly typed, easy to debug, can be used on desktop and web, have garbage collection, more programmers, the list could go on.

What you really meant to say was: Why is everyone else not programming the language I learnt? WHY?

It's not a question of whether a PHP programmer can go to Java or .Net. It's more to do with how you as a developer approach the situation. However, as a PHP programmer, you will not be taken seriously as a Java or .Net developer.

You must learn and prove yourself in those areas first.

That's only one you can answer, depending on your situation. If it were me, I would follow the .Net route, as this has a much wider range of companies to choose from that use it. It will also give you much more of a foot hold into 'real' programming.
