I am not a web application developer, so my questions are very basic.

If i want to start an online business and would like to receive payment from customers, how can i do that?

Apparently what i need is a shopping cart software (whatever that means) and an internet payment gateway. A friend recommended that i use www.goemerchant.com[^]

In some websites, you have to pay if you want to have access to certain pages of the site. There is always that page that asks you to pay. After having paid, you either become a member or you get provided with some service or product(music, movie, programing code...)

I would also want only people that have paid to access certain pages of my website.

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards,

Herve

Is your business just to provide the access to some information? Good luck, then! :-)
If your business will be software and you're not a knowledgeable developer, your chances would be bad...

I am knowledgeable in my field: data mining, machine learning and computer vision. I just don't know a lot about web development :(

Honestly, if that's the case, judging by your question you have pretty much no web development experience. I would just hire rather than learn, especially if you're dealing with e-commerce, the risk can be high (lack of hashed passwords, backdoors to cc info, etc. If you need help, just hire a company. If you need recommendations on a company I'd be happy to supply.

SharePoint allows you to set authentication for login users. You are enabled to assign permissions for websites Members. As you wish, you can endow people who have paid with the freedom to access your website.
To make it better, you can make use of SharePoint Designer, which enables you to drag Login textbox to have a check on the identification.
